The course

Science in Action introduces a repeatable inquiry process that can be used in a kitchen, garden, classroom, workshop, or neighborhood. Learners move from observation to a testable question, gather information carefully, and revise their thinking when the evidence calls for it.

Scientific habits help people notice patterns, reduce guesswork, solve practical problems, and communicate what they found with more honesty and precision.

Each module moves from a core concept to an activity that can be tried in everyday life, a classroom, or a community learning group.

    Turn curiosity into a question

    Move from a broad observation to a question that can be explored with evidence rather than a question too vague to test.

    Try itNotice one repeating pattern in your surroundings. Write one question about it that could be explored through observation or measurement.

    Make a fair comparison

    Learn why changing one thing at a time, defining conditions, and recording what happened make an experiment more useful.

    Try itDesign a tiny comparison: choose one variable to change, one thing to keep the same, and one result to observe.

    Let data tell the story

    Practice recording observations clearly and using a basic table or sketch to identify a pattern without exaggerating the result.

    Try itCollect five to ten observations of one simple thing, such as temperature, time, or plant growth. Display them in a small table.

    Improve the explanation

    Treat explanations as models that can get better over time when new observations, questions, or comparisons are added.

    Try itWrite one sentence explaining your observation. Then write what additional evidence would make that explanation stronger.
